Taste of Texas a Success!

We kicked off our third season of Parties of Note on Thursday, October 2, 2008.
The setting was reminiscent of West Texas with western music in the air and wonderful Western art and artifacts throughout this beautiful home.

On a Preston Hollow outdoor veranda, a sumptuous array of cocktail hors d'oeuvres were provided by PARK CITIES PRIME. These tasty nibbles enhanced the wine selections donated by four outstanding Texas wineries - FUQUA WINERY, Inwood Estate Vineyards, Lone Oak Winery and Wales Manor. The evening ended sampling delicious sweets.

Up Close and Classical    SOLD OUT
An Evening with Mort Meyerson

The event held on November 12, 2008 was a special evening of cocktails, dinner and conversation in a beautiful home. Guests enjoyed cocktails while listening to a performance by violinist Steven Juarez who won third place in the Friedlander music competition in 2007.

After a delicious dinner prepared by the Up Close and Classical chefs, those in attendance had the opportunity to get to know and hear the history of the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and the passion that made it happen from its namesake.

Mr. Meyerson is Chairman and CEO of 2M Companies, Inc., a private investment firm, and he serves on the board of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He dedicates his time equally to family, philanthropy, study and investments.

Prelude Luncheon is an
Elegant Affair

The 5th Annual Prelude Luncheon was held on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in the lobby of the Meyerson Symphony Center.

The celebration began with a fantastic musical performance by violinist Bobby Gonzales, the 2008 second place winner of the Friedlander, a music competition sponsored by the League. During lunch were exquisite fashions modeled by our own DSOL members. Terri Ives demonstrated the art of coordinating jackets and accessories to create a unique style.

Chaired by Joanie Stephens, the event provided an elegant preview of couture fashions. Terri Ives provided racks of sample clothing that were tried on and purchased. Thanks go to the many committeee members who worked tirelessly to make this such a beautiful event!

The DSOL Salon Series  SOLD OUT

The New Year with the Essence of Beethoven on January 11 and February 8, 2009 for
a rare experience of chamber music in a setting for which it was originally written. Senior Principal Associate Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Gary Levinson was joined by acclaimed pianist Baya Kakouberi, artistic director of the Blue Candlelight Music Series for two performances of Beethoven's masterpieces for his two favorite instruments, The Sonatas for Violin and Piano. Written at the end of the 1700's and completed in the first decade of the 1800's, these masterpieces belie Beethoven's  genius when he was just in his 20s. These sonatas were premiered at regular musicales in Vienna. We are proud to recreate that magical atmmosphere in this mini series at the dawn of 2009.

At each salon event, guests enjoyed appetizers paired with the "flavor" of the sonatas played. These appetizers were preparedby the Up Close and Classical chefs.
Bessemer Trust is the generous sponsor of this series. A special thank you to Faye Briggs for her support of this program.

Magical Musical Tour    SOLD OUT

A Musical Tour Through Time and Place

On Wednesday, April 1, 2009 guests at this magical event were entertained at a very special home steeped in Dallas history. The home designed by Fooshee and Cheek was built in 1933 for the very colorful David Harold "Dry Hole" Byrd who later married Mattie Caruth. The Byrd home was the site of many fabulous parties including the famous annual party on the night of the Texas-Oklahoma football game, and the entire Texas band attended! Another famous resident of this home was philantrophist and oilman T. Boone Pickens. Each room of this magnificent state is filled with objects of beauty.

After a gourmet seated dinner paired with wine, guests on this tour were treated to a private performance by Anthony and Beard, musicians who have been dazzling audiences together for 15 years. Their combination of wit and artistry on their instruments of horn and piano created an evening different from any other. As separate artists, Ryan Anthony is Principal Trumpet with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and Gary Beard is conductor of the Lindenwood Chancel Choir and the Gary Beard Chorale. Their appearance featureed transcriptions that took the audience on a journey around the world with some of the greatest composers and songs we all love.
